Fostering is the backbone of our rescue at Last Chance Rescue. Our fosters are from all over and take in animals from high-kill shelters, puppy mills, research lists, or who were abandoned by previous owners. Many of these animals have never known the feeling of a warm bed or a soft stroke of encouragement. Many have never known when or where their next meal was coming. Many are fearful of the humans that have failed them. Fostering is more than babysitting, it’s rehabilitating. In foster homes, dogs and cats learn how to be a pet and live in an household. We get to learn about their individual needs so that we can choose the very best homes for them and set them up for future success. And the best part, we get to feel the love and appreciation from an animal who had no hope. Rescue animals somehow seem to know they were rescued are constantly finding ways to “thank” their foster family, whether it’s sweet cuddles or a warmth in their eyes that says “thank you for saving me!”
